Lunar New Year Specialty Cocktail: The Tet-Nis Shot

“An aperitif guaranteed to inoculate you against bad luck in the year 4707” (2009 on the Roman calendar)

1 part Campari
1 part Sweet Red Vermouth
1 part Shiso-infused Vodka

Shake with ice and serve up.

It’s a variation on the Negroni, substituting shiso-infused vodka for gin to give it a little Asian aromatic quality, while maintaining the bright red color and medicinal, herbaceous bitterness.

If you don’t get the name, Tet is the word for Lunar New Year in Vietnam, as in the Tet Offensive.  Hmmm…. “Tet Offensive” sounds like a good name for another Lunar New Year cocktail.

  1. hm. I don’t have a source for akashiso infused vodka. Are you making your own? fresh akashiso is also a bit hard to come by.

I have akashiso umeshu (plum wine) but that’s going to oversweeten this drink.

I bet Punt e Mes would be a great red vermouth for this one!

  2. OMG I love anything with Campari in it! I’m so excited for Saturday. Like I said before, let me know if you need help cooking/setting up.

  3. Man you’re going to regret saying that. I’m surprised this drink didn’t actually numb my mouth it was so medicinal. But then again, I don’t <3 Campari, at all. It is certainly herbaceous.
